Governor Ducey To Kick Off Arizona’s 2nd Annual National Red Ribbon Week

October 21, 2016

Office of the Governor Doug Ducey

PHOENIX — On Monday, Governor Doug Ducey will officially kick off National Red Ribbon Week at the State Capitol. The annual awareness campaign aims to educate Arizonans about substance abuse and the harmful stigma often associated with this increasingly urgent issue in the United States.

Monday’s event—"Addiction: The Elephant in the Room"—is spearheaded by the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family (GOYFF) in collaboration with many passionate volunteers across the state.

GOYFF encourages anyone working on or experiencing substance abuse and/or recovery, from parents to educators to health professionals to law enforcement, to attend the event and encourage others to do the same.

"It is crucial to increase awareness about the prevalence of substance abuse so that our most vulnerable can keep receiving the treatment and support they need," said Governor Ducey. "I applaud the work Director Moak’s office is doing to ensure that Arizona leads the way in preventing and treating substance abuse."

"With 90 percent of all addictions starting during the teen years, Arizona families simply can’t afford to pretend that everything is OK,” said GOYFF Director Debbie Moak. “Youth falling into drug abuse is a national epidemic, and we need to make sure that families and communities across Arizona have the tools and insight to properly address it."
