Epidemiology Work Group Training

The use of community, county, and state-level data is important to effectively serve local communities and allocate resources. The Arizona Substance Abuse Epidemiology Work Group (Epi Work Group), under the direction of Governor Ducey’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family and in partnership with the Arizona State University Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center, has developed curriculum and training modules designed to introduce participants to the Community Data Project (CDP) and other data to empower them to conduct needs assessments, write grant applications, substantiate best practices, inform the public and design effective programming evaluations.

The Using Data to Empower Arizona Communities training will introduce participants to data elements, risk and protective factors, and other basic statistical measures. Each training will provide participants with an opportunity to actively engage and process the information and materials in a cooperative group environment. This training is offered free of charge, although sponsoring organizations may be asked to provide a training room with Wi-Fi, and assist with other logistics.

Technical Assistance Training

The Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family  (GOYFF) will offer ongoing trainings and technical assistance for current Sub-grantees, Coalitions, Non-Profits, Government Entities, Tribal Nations, Education Districts, Colleges and Universities and the public in general.  Trainings will consist of Evidence-based programs, Prescription Drug Use, The AZ Rx Drug Misuse and Abuse Initiative Toolkit, Communities in Context, Grant Programs, Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Issues.

GOYFF will promote trainings that offer healthy and protective, parent-child interactions and address children's risk for early substance abuse.  Evidence-based programs will help parents learn specific strategies to assist their children to avoid substance use and other adolescent problem behaviors.  GOYFF will use evidence-based programs listed on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices

AZ RX Drug Misuse and Abuse Initiative

The AZ Rx Drug Misuse and Abuse Initiative Toolkit Implementation Plan details five strategies, along with corresponding goals, objectives, action steps, and identified partners, that aim to reduce prescription drug misuse and abuse and the consequences associated with this epidemic to improve the health of Arizona’s communities and families.  GOYFF and collaborative partners will be available to train on the toolkit at the request of agencies, coalitions and the general public.
